brows furrowing in the middle as features softened, there was a weak smile curling at her lips. yeah, this was the guy who nearly killed her—-nearly finished the job, and here she stood on his doorstep. she had connections, too. hands nestled deep in her coat pockets, anastasia rolled back onto her heels with a shrug of her shoulders.
“look—with all due respect, if i was here to do that, you wouldn’t be awake right now. ”
john doesn’t normally get social visits. not conventional ones, anyways. especially not from a woman whom he’d been given a contract on & he failed to execute it. but he’ll throw the blame on the people that thought it’d been wise to stab him in the back to begin with. standing before her now, though, & seeing her face to face … wick is furious. it’s failure staring back at him, but he’s not angry with the woman herself. no, he’s got his rage directed at the right person.

precisely what he means to say. he’s glad she’s saved him the effort of explaining. “ yeah. ” john replies, aiming down the holographic sights of his assault rifle.
“ now, i know you’ve succeeded against people like me before. but stay out of this. because if you interfere, you won’t walk away. not from me. ”
john gives a sharp click of the tongue at his companion the moment veers he off course to start huffing & sniffing at a woman’s feet. “leave her alone.” wick says, gesturing for the pit to return to his side. “he won’t bite.”
not without reason, of course. but she doesn’t need to know that much. but he wanted to give the passerby reassurance, especially considering the dog isn’t leashed. but the dog without a name heed the word of it’s master without question, eagerly returning to his side.
