CLIPPED LAUGH left her then / the idea that she was somehow exempt from punishment was a laughable one. he was excommunicado, supposedly stripped from any resource and all previous relationship and, given her continued involvement, there was nothing that would suggest she would be free from punishment if she were found. of course, this begged the observation that they were cut from a different cloth / creatures that held a certain heart for such work, as much as he attempted to deny it for a time. hands clasped his cheeks lightly, gaze falling into sweet descent past icy gaze upon WICKED cupid’s bow / lingering, nevermore obedience was required where self-control might have been lacking. ❛ until they realize i have no interest in your bounty. ❜
finale given as a sigh, heralding her own restraint as she released him and took a step back / looking him over as if assessing whether or not he was ready for battle. he was always prepared, forever the HARBINGER equal parts satisfying and heartbreaking. ❛ perhaps you’re going about this the wrong way. ❜
she tantalizes the parts of him that long for a meaningful connection. nearly lulls him into a mawkish abstraction. allowing himself any small measure of respite, though, may dull his sharpened edges. even now, an emotional dissonance prevents any words from forming. & when she speaks, touching him dearly & melting away the ice, all she’s met with is silence, save for his purposefully even breathing. ‘then what is it you’re interested in’, is what he would like to ask. but digging deeper into that rabbit hole would only make it harder to crawl out of.
it’s easy for eyes that have watched him for so long to see his resolve shifting beneath the surface. she can see how he grapples with the parts of himself that are at odds with one another. a shrill beep dissolves his tension, muffled from within his trousers. rough bristles brush along the dark collar of his grim, inky suit as he fishes the cell phone from his pocket & checks the text on the screen. he’s finding it difficult to meet her gaze.
